Church. What’s the point?

This series is designed as a way of reminding each of us what the local church is all about. In his book, The Purpose Driven Church, Rick Warren spells out what he believes to be the five purposes of every local church: Worship, ministry, evangelism, fellowship and discipleship.

This 5 part series investigates those 5 purposes…



Week 1 – “To Worship

Hebrews 10:24-25 – “24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”

Matthew 18:20 – “20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”

3 For the Lord is the great God, And the great King above all gods. 4 In His hand are the deep places of the earth; The heights of the hills are His also. 5 The sea is His, for He made it;And His hands formed the dry land.

John 4:23 – But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers (infers there are not-true worshipers) will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.

6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. 7 For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture,

Isaiah 29:13 – Therefore the Lord said: “Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths And honor Me with their lips, But have removed their hearts far from Me, And their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men

Romans 12:1-2: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
